The following encompasses some of my thoughts on a little bit of everything regarding video gaming. One of my goals of this blog is to share with you some of the processes I go through when writing system reviews and the development of this website. Also included: game reviews, general collecting, even some of my my personal thoughts from being an 'old' gamer. You get a taste of it all. Hopefully you will find at least some of the following mildly interesting. Please enjoy!

Most Hated Gaming Missions     by Marriott_Guy (21-Feb-11)

This weekend I was blessed with the unthinkable – an absolutely blank calendar.  For the first time in nearly two months, the madness known as ‘social obligations’ had thankfully subsided for a couple of days.  My internal battery had been running on fumes for quite a while, so this break was more than welcomed.  I [...]

What’s Cookin’: 22-Jan-11     by Marriott_Guy (22-Jan-11)

I know it has been a while since my last What’s Cookin’ post, but many exciting changes have occurred within the past year for our VGCL website.  We have not been slouches at all, but have been hard at work.  This article gives a little summary of those past happenings, as well as what we [...]

The Perfect Storm     by Marriott_Guy (27-Nov-10)

For nearly two generations, the console world has been dominated by the big three – Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.  All have produced fine systems in their own right, introducing new technology and innovations to our gaming universe.  That being said, the availability of viable alternatives has been virtually nonexistent for the past decade.  Outside of [...]

Review: Monoprice 8X1 HDMI Switcher     by Marriott_Guy (26-Nov-10)

I jumped on the HDTV bandwagon relatively early with the purchase of my Toshiba 52HM84 DLP television set back in 2004. At that time, the war for a standardized digital input was still raging and HDMI was not yet an industry standard. Not willing to sink a great deal of money into a fledgling format, [...]

Review: Pelican System Selector Pro     by Marriott_Guy (26-Nov-10)

If you are an old school gamer like myself, it goes without saying that there is a significant need for additional standard def television inputs due to the large library of systems requiring this type of A/V connection. Typically I’ll play games across a variety of consoles – the last thing I want to do [...]

Review: Energizer Power Charging Station (PS3)     by Marriott_Guy (26-Nov-10)

Keeping your controllers fully charged is obviously important in today’s age of wireless gaming. Of equal importance is having an organized, spot-on display within my Room of Doom. The Energizer Power & Play Charging Station was just what the doctor ordered for this gamer. I have never been a big fan of the USB method [...]

No Soup For You!!     by Marriott_Guy (21-Jun-10)

As I grow more experienced in life (a.k.a. get old), I find myself becoming less patient and accommodating for daily idiocies that I once blew off without a moment’s thought.  I’d like to think I am a pretty easy going guy, but there are quite a few things that are truly beginning to torque me [...]

The Diversity of Gamer Breeds     by Marriott_Guy (23-Feb-10)

The level of enjoyment of any multi-player gaming experience is heavily dependant upon your fellow gamers.  Whether it be teaming with a bud in a co-op couch game of Contra or joining an online bout with hundreds of unnamed souls in Worlds of Warcraft, it still boils down to the same – are the people [...]

The Online Gaming Leveler     by Marriott_Guy (16-Feb-10)

My little brother (age 35) has been pestering me for months to get with the times and pick up a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  I was extremely hesitant – getting beat on like a piñata by a group of ‘any’ year olds is not my idea of a fun time.  He [...]

Humorous Lessons: The Results of Lending     by Marriott_Guy (19-Jan-10)

Like any other gamer or collector, I take great pride in the preservation of the spoils of war that reside in my Room of Doom.  I do not loan out my games to just anyone.  I made the unfortunate mistake of including my brother in my extremely limited ‘circle of trust’. Halo: Combat Evolved was [...]
