Who We Are
Video Game Console Library (VGCL) is an independent online encyclopedia dedicated to documenting every major video game console ever made — from the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972 to the latest hardware from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
We cover the history, technical specifications, game libraries, and collecting value of each platform. Whether you’re a retro gaming enthusiast, a collector, a student of gaming history, or simply curious about the consoles that shaped the entertainment industry, VGCL is your reference.
Our Mission
The history of video game hardware is scattered across forums, wikis, and fading memories. Our mission is to bring it together in one place — accurate, well-researched, and accessible. Every console page on VGCL includes detailed hardware specs, honest ratings, historical context, and current collecting information.
What We Cover
- Console hardware — from first-generation systems to current platforms
- Technical specifications — CPUs, GPUs, memory, audio, storage, and display capabilities
- History and development — the stories behind the machines
- Game libraries — highlights and hidden gems for each platform
- Collecting guides — current market values, reliability, and buying advice
- Articles and features — deep dives into console wars, industry history, and gaming culture
The Casino Section
Alongside the console encyclopedia, the site runs a separate casino section with operator comparisons, reviews, guides and calculators for readers in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is addressed to adults only: 18 and over in Alberta and the United Kingdom, 19 and over in Ontario and the rest of Canada, 21 and over in the United States. The links to operators in that section are affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission when a reader registers or deposits through one of them; that commission funds the site and does not move a brand up or down our rankings. Every page in the section links to free, confidential help for gambling problems.
